Day 17 - zero in big beAr

April 13 | Miles: 0

This morning we woke up to fresh hot coffee, pancakes, bananas, and scrambled eggs, courtesy of the lovely Joe and Carol (now aka Trophy Husband and Sugar Mama).

Laundry was done and town chores accomplished, including a hiker box stop where I picked up a fresh town gown. I’ll spare you the embarrassing pics but suffice it to say it was a Hawaiian-print minidress. It’s not leaving Big Bear, but it did the job for the day..

It was a pretty lowkey day. Town is always a little bit of an assault on the senses. We hit up the Dollar Tree, Kmart, and Vons, picking up enough ramen and protein bars for the next 100 miles.

The weather was beautiful and calm, with sunlight filtering through the giant pines.

Around dinner, our hosts left to go to church so I helped prep some fajita veggies and Spanish rice. It was nice to be back in a real kitchen for a minute.

I also whipped up some brownies for dessert. After that it was time to call it a night. Back on trail tomorrow, and headed back to the desert.
